(I am confused with lithium batteries carried as passenger baggage.)
Q.
Lithium ion batteries shown on Table 2.3.A (Page 14 of 51st Edition) and spare lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries on Table 2.3.A (Page 15) both show ? May be carried in carry on baggage but for ?gon one?fs person?h, Page 14 says YES, and Page 15 says NO. Why are there such differences? (28 Feb 10)
A.
The lithium batteries shown on Table 2.3.A (Page 15 of 51st Edition) is for small batteries as described in details in 2.3.5.9.1 (Page 16). For lithium metal batteries, it should not be more than 2g, and for lithium ion batteries, it should not be more than 100Wh. The electronic device dealt in 2.3.5.9.1 only contain small lithium batteries, and therefore the guideline is YES, YES, YES, NO. NO. Small spare batteries of 2.3.5.9.1 are YES, NO, NO, NO, NO. Lithium batteries shown on Table 2.3.A (Page 14) are larger batteries. Ion batteries exceeding 100Wh but not more that 160Wh. Details are written in 2.3.3.2 on Page 13. Spare batteries carry the guidance, YES, NO, YES, YES, NO.
