(A question on DGD Figure 8.1.H - Example 4.)
Q.
Below the Figure 8.1.H – Example 4 (Page 752 of DGR 62 nd Edition), there is an explanation about how only two entries within the DGD is taken into account when calculating the Q value. Can you explain to me why item number one UN1950 is not considered? Even though this entry is via gross weight, is it not possible that the omission of such an item can cause the package to exceed the Q value of 1.0?
Please advise.  (31 Jan 21)
A.
(1) Reason for excluding UN1950 Aerosols, non-flammable from Q calculation. Please refer to LTD QTY section 2.7.5.6 (e) where it says: “Class 2 is excluded from Q calculation, except for 3 UN numbers”. Also, 2.7.5.6 (f) 2nd bullet point says: “where packed with other DG, gross weight of completed package must not exceed 30kg G.” Therefore the gross weight entry on Figure 8.1.H is shown as “Total Gross Weight: 10kg G”. If the gross weight of the completed package exceeds 30kg G, the package cannot be forwarded as LTD QTY.

Please also refer to 8.1.6.9.2 Step 6 (d) which reads: “For DG in LTD QTY with a 30kg G limit shown in Coumn H of DG List where different DG are packed together, the gross weight of the completed package must be shown after the Q value. See Fig. 8.1.H.”

(2) For the 2 items, Q calculation is done.

UN2653 0.3L/1.0L + UN2049 0.5L/10.0L = 0.35 = 0.4
Therefore DGD indicates Q = 0.4.
If, Q value should exceed 1.0, the items cannot be forwarded as LTD QTY.
