(Question on PI 970 on UN3091 Lithium Metal Batteries contained in equipment.)
Q.
PI 970 for UN 3091 Lithium Metal or Lithium Alloy Cells and Batteries contained in equipment spells out in the paragraph titled “Additional Requirements – Section II” : “Each package must be durably and legibly marked with the lithium battery mark, Figure 7.1.C, as required by 7.1.5.5. The package must be of such a size that there is adequate space to affix the mark on one side of the package without the mark being folded. The application of the lithium battery mark does not apply to:

・ packages containing only button cell batteries installed in equipment
(including circuit boards); or
・consignments of two packages or less where each package contains no more than four cells or two batteries installed in equipment.

Is it correct to understand that if the shipment satisfies the two bullet points mentioned immediately above, the shipment does not require the lithium battery mark as well as any statement on the AWB, and can be transported as general cargo.  (31 Jul 18)
